30th European Poker Championship: International poker elite at Casino Velden
18.06.2019 - Casinos Austria
A superlative event is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and features an extremely attractive venue for the fifth time at Casino Velden.
From one party to the next: iconic location Casino Velden just celebrated its 30th anniversary at the end of May on Lake Wörthersee with around 2,000 visitors, and soon multiple times this number of visitors will be gathering at the lakeside casino. After all, there were 15,000 guests at Casino Velden last year during the 29th European Poker Championship. And for twelve days from 17 to 28 July 2019 the casino will be a hot spot again for all poker fans. The unparalleled location provides a marvellous ambience for this mega spectacle, which more than 1,500 players from 30 nations are expected to travel to, as the Velden poker scene is, of course, mentioned in the same breath as major poker centres such as Las Vegas. The interesting range of tournament offers, well-endowed cash game and, of course, the feel of summer on Lake Wörthersee make the European Poker Championship a permanent fixture and poker highlight of the year for poker-playing pros and amateurs alike.
The first major event this year is Showdown on Lake Wörthersee, which is certain to be the biggest tournament again with a buy-in of € 500 + € 50. With a buy-in of € 300 + € 30, the Lake Wörthersee Poker Party taking place on the second weekend of the European Poker Championship is comparable to it. But, of course, the title of European Champion is what the players are really aiming for. The Ladies European Championship has already developed into a popular fixture and has a buy-in of € 300 + € 30. win2day testimonial and two-time European Poker Champion Jessica Teusl will be there, of course, to defend her title. The European Championship in Pot Limit Omaha has a buy-in of € 2,000 + € 160. A buy-in of € 300 + € 30 gets you in the European Championship in Seven Card Stud. The most important tournament, of course, is the Main Event, the € 2,500 + € 200 European Championship in No Limit Hold'em. Here victory went to Germany last year. There'll be something for everyone in the High Roller and Super High Roller events with a € 5,000 + € 400 and a € 30,000 + € 900 No Limit Hold'em tournament.
For the Free Roll Championship on the last day of playing, Casinos Austria is providing guaranteed prize money of € 30,000. The cash game tables will be open early every day between 15.00 and 5.00.
In his position as manager of Casino Velden, Director Paul Vogel is looking forward to the European Poker Championship: 'Due to its location and experienced organisational team, Casino Velden has everything an event of this scale needs. Poker legend Doyle Brunson once said, 'Luck is just the door; to win you have to come through the window'. So why not come through the window with the most beautiful view at Casino Velden. I'm delighted to be hosting the 30th European Poker Championship'.
Casinos Austria Poker Manager Niklas Sattler and Casino Velden Poker Manager Gerald Golker and their team have once again created outstanding conditions for the event and have come up with a spectacular programme for the anniversary party on Thursday, 25 July. The official website pokerem.at provides all the details and information about the anniversary event and, along with the European Championship trailer, also first impressions of the event location.
Online partner win2day.at is offering satellites for the Main Event, Showdown on Lake Wörthersee as well as the Lake Wörthersee Poker Party. It's possible to qualify for these top events for a small sum.
Full house for local tourism
At this mega event there will also be sufficient time to enjoy the extraordinary flair of the region away from the poker tables. The fun of poker and feel of summer can be perfectly combined at the location on the Velden Bay. The lake beckons you for a swim and the in-house motorboat is available to guests free of charge for exploratory tours. The nightlife on the square in front of the casino, the excellent bars, pubs and restaurants and, last but not least, the professionalism of the local team guarantee our international and local guests will have an unforgettable experience.
The managing director of Veldener Tourismus GmbH, Bernhard Pichler Koban, is also aware of the value of the events for the region: 'Thanks to the European Poker Championship at Casino Velden, poker players from all over the world are drawn to Lake Wörthersee every year in the height of summer. We are delighted to step out of the shadows of the big poker centres for a couple of days and to step into the spotlight of the international poker scene. At this time above all Velden on Lake Wörthersee also offers the best combination of Mediterranean flair, upscale lifestyle and a state-of-the-art casino with a view of the lake – it's simply perfect to refresh yourself with a jump in the water before or after gaming or to simply relax comfortably at the lake. Velden's hotels and restaurants are equally enthusiastic about this first-rate event and its guests. One could say poker's a 'royal flush' for our location! At this juncture, I'd like to express enormous praise and to extend my thanks to the organisers for their professional implementation. We are looking forward to the continuation in 2020!
Chef Marcel J. Vanic and his team guarantee a first-rate culinary performance. The traditional suckling pig and Carinthian 'Brettljaus'n' - a plate of cold cuts accompanied by local bread, cheeses, pickles and spreads - are as much a part of it as the range of offers at the two-time 'Gault&Millau'-winning Cuisino restaurant 'Die Yacht'. Numerous poker players are accompanied by family and friends, combining their stay at the European Poker Championship with a short holiday. With overnight stays the event also brings added touristic value of around € 2 million to the region.
