The Journal of Gambling Issues (JGI) is the world's first and longest-running online, academic journal dedicated to understanding problem gambling. Due to the increasing convergence of gambling and gaming, the JGI expanded its scope in 2019 to include problem video gaming and technology use.

Electronic gambling devices are designed based on a deep understanding of human psychology and how to manipulate human behaviour. The psychological principles (such as a variable-ratio reward system) work on everybody, since the designers of the machines capitalize on understanding how the brain functions and how motivation and behaviour can be. He is an editorial board member of International Gambling Studies, Journal of Gambling Issues, International Journal of Casino and Business, International Journal of Cyber Behavior, Psychology and Learning, and Aloma: Revista de Psicologia, and has advised governmental bodies in the UK, Australia, Canada, Israel, Finland, Sweden and Norway. One of the proudest moments of my academic career was when my 1994 study on the role of cognitive bias in slot machine gambling published in the British Journal of Psychology was introduced as a. Background: Gambling disorder, recognized in DSM-5 as a behavioral addiction, is associated with a range of adverse outcomes. However, there has been little research on the genetic and environmental influences on the development of this disorder. This study reports results from the largest twin study of GD conducted to date.

JGI is an open-access, indexed journal with a double blind peer review process that provides a scientific forum for developments in gambling-related research, policy issues, and treatments. JGI is now part of the Web of Science: Emerging Sources Citation Index. We are also indexed in Scopus, Crossref, Elselvier Series, Ebsco, Scimago and PsycInfo, among others.

Publishing Schedule and Fees: Issues are published triannually, although manuscripts are made publicly available as soon as they have been accepted/typeset on the JGI Online First platform. JGI does not charge any review or publication fees and is fully open access.

The JGI is published by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
