Sturgeon Lake Walleye Slot Size
Sturgeon Lake is one of the Kawartha Lakes and also part of the Trent Severn Canal System that extends from the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, a distance of 386 kms (as the fish swims). I know there are smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye (pickeral), and muskie in this lake. Send me an email to tell me where to look for the fish based on the grid I have placed over the lake. There is more information on Sturgeon Lake below the map.
Sturgeon Lake Walleye Slot Size Chart
Farm Island Lake, nestled in Aitkin County, has a very specific slot length set up for walleyes. The angler must immediately let go any walleye that falls between the lengths of 16 through 19 inches. On Cass County's Leech Lake, the walleye slot length extends from 18 inches to 26 inches. Walleye and Sauger – 3 in combined total. Northern Pike – 3 in total. Yellow Perch – 15 in total. Lake Whitefish and Cisco (Tullibee) – 10 in combined total. Goldeye and Mooneye – 10 in combined total. Burbot (Ling) – 10 in total. Lake Sturgeon – 0; Non-game fish – no restriction on the numbers kept. Sturgeon Lake boasted the state record walleye for some time with a 16 pound eight ounce specimen caught in 1949. This lake is still home to a good number of “double-digit” walleyes. As I grew older, the fish populations continued to drop drastically. It finally got to the point in the late 90s, when I gave up fishing for walleye, as there was a very good chance of fishing all day without getting a bite or any fish caught were within the slot size. Something I wasn’t use to in the Fenelon river and on Sturgeon lake.
Getting There:Summer Dream Tours have done such a wonderful job of explaining how to get to the Kawartha Lakes from anywhere on the planet that I'll just make a link right to them. You won't see the word Sturgeon Lake on the maps, but if you find Bobcaygeon you are in the neighbourhood.
